This February, Somerset Opera brings one of the opera world’s most beloved works to local audiences. La Bohème is a timeless story of love, loss and fleeting joy. In this new adaptation, set at Christmas in wartime Somerset, audiences are invited into an intimate world where hope burns brightest in the darkest of times.

Synopsis
Christmas 1939. The war has begun but the effects haven’t set in yet. In Somerset, Operation Pied Piper has brought an influx of women and children from the cities, and this Christmas is unlike any other that has happened before.

For a group of young creative people, their lives continue. They celebrate, commiserate and contrive to maintain their ideals in a changing world. But as the world turns darker and challenges arise, will love be enough?

Somerset Opera will perform Puccini’s much-loved masterpiece La Bohème, bringing its unforgettable music and moving story to life in an evening of passion, laughter and heartbreak. Sung in English, the production promises to  be a feast for the senses. The timeless score – from Rodolfo’s rapturous “Che gelida manina” to Mimì’s tender “Si, mi chiamano Mimì” – will transport audiences straight to wartime Somerset, while the atmospheric surroundings of Wookey Hole add a truly unique dimension to the experience.

Whether you’re an opera enthusiast or brand new to the art form, this is a performance not to be missed!
